Techlan is delighted to be supporting fellow Welsh innovator Lineat Composites as it continues to develop more sustainable solutions for the advanced composites industry.
Lineat, a cleantech company specialising in the recovery and reuse of carbon fibre, has adopted Techlan’s 100% recycled silicone release liner, Re-Liner™, within its manufacturing operations. The collaboration brings together two businesses with a shared ambition: to keep valuable materials in circulation and reduce the environmental impact of high-performance manufacturing.
Using its patented Aligned Formable Fibre Technology (AFFT™), Lineat transforms chopped waste carbon fibre into highly aligned fibre tapes that can be used to manufacture new composite components. The technology enables valuable carbon fibre to be recovered and reused rather than discarded, supporting a more circular approach to composite production.
The introduction of Re-Liner™ further strengthens this approach.
Release liners perform an important role throughout composite manufacturing, including in prepreg production, composite lay-up, curing and other processing operations. Techlan’s Re-Liner™ provides manufacturers with a high-quality recycled alternative to conventional virgin release liners, delivering the reliable release, dimensional stability and processing performance required for demanding applications.
Manufactured using Techlan’s patented recycling process, Re-Liner™ is produced entirely from recovered silicone release liner waste. This enables manufacturers to reduce their reliance on virgin materials, divert difficult-to-recycle liner waste from disposal and lower the environmental impact of their supply chains.
The collaboration with Lineat provides another example of how Re-Liner™ can support the composites sector as manufacturers look for practical ways to improve sustainability without compromising performance.
Both businesses are demonstrating that circularity can extend beyond the primary composite material itself. By combining the reuse of carbon fibre with recycled process materials such as release liners, manufacturers can address waste at multiple stages of the production process.
For Techlan, the adoption of Re-Liner™ by Lineat represents another exciting step in expanding our contribution to sustainable composite manufacturing and demonstrates what can be achieved when innovative businesses work together to keep valuable materials in use for longer.
